This is my favorite part. How do you and I get our books discovered? How can I make my books as famous as Harry Potter or Divergent? It isn't easy, but it can be done.
You have to start at the most popular thing in today's society: Social Media. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Pintrest, Tumblr, and any other site or app are perfect examples. You have to have a large following in as many social medial platforms as you possibly can. If you get more popular, you can averitise your book better. Every single time your name gets searched, your book will appear. You will get your book found. There are millions of people out there on social media (see image below.) Another option is giving out some copies of your book out for free. Give out a few copies to friends with it signed or something and ask them to recommend it to others, That should get you found just a little more. Do free book signings and such as well. Comment on blogs! Make a blog, comment on blogs! Many authors that self-publish have a high following on their blogs as well. If you are Self-Publishing, you will need to do these things. If you traditionally publish, you won't need to do it as much, but you will need large followings. Large followings are the best way to get found. Speak up! Raise your voice! Passionate voices always make it to the top. I don't care if its on social media or in real life! Make yourself heard! Be passionate about what you say! You will rise! Don't give up, and your book will get found.

Step 3 is the hardest choice that you will have to make in this whole process. You have to decide if you want to publish on your own, or if you want someone else to do it for you. Let me warn you, neither of these is an easy choice.
The number one thing that you need to know is the difference between traditional publishing and self-publishing. Traditional publishing is where you have to get accepted by an agent, then the agent has to get you accepted by a publisher. Let me tell you, it isn't easy. Self-Publishing is where you publish a book online by yourself. This includes Amazon or Google. Self-Publishing is easier and faster for getting your book published, but it is much harder to get discovered. Self-Publishing I'm going to start by explaining the Self-Publishing pros. There are many things that are good about self-publishing.
Step 1: Go to CreateSpace. It is linked to Amazon. You will start your publishing journey here. Step 2: Make sure you check all the boxes you want for your book. Do you want hard covers? Do you want paperbacks? You have to tell the computer. (Don't actually talk to the computer, you'll look crazy.) Step 3: Insert your story into the page how you want it. It will be published this way. Step 4: Wait a few days for it to completely publish itself. There you have it. Now, you know how to self-publish your book on Amazon. Many authors recommend self-publishing because you make more money, if you can get discovered. Traditional Publishing Alright, I guess I should start with the pros of traditional publishing.
Step 1: Get accepted by a literary agent. You can probably find some online. Step 2: Do everything that the agent says. That’s it really. You don’t have to do much until your publisher and editor look it over. That’s when you’ll have to rewrite and delete and ruin your story. Decide Choose what you want to do depending on your book. What do you want for your book? Good luck! It’s a tough choice. Personally, I’m going to self-publish when I finish writing… and editing… and rewriting… and designing. Anyway, Happy Publishing! |
