This is my favorite part. How do you and I get our books discovered? How can I make my books as famous as Harry Potter or Divergent? It isn't easy, but it can be done.
You have to start at the most popular thing in today's society: Social Media. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Pintrest, Tumblr, and any other site or app are perfect examples. You have to have a large following in as many social medial platforms as you possibly can. If you get more popular, you can averitise your book better. Every single time your name gets searched, your book will appear. You will get your book found. There are millions of people out there on social media (see image below.) Another option is giving out some copies of your book out for free. Give out a few copies to friends with it signed or something and ask them to recommend it to others, That should get you found just a little more. Do free book signings and such as well. Comment on blogs! Make a blog, comment on blogs! Many authors that self-publish have a high following on their blogs as well. If you are Self-Publishing, you will need to do these things. If you traditionally publish, you won't need to do it as much, but you will need large followings. Large followings are the best way to get found. Speak up! Raise your voice! Passionate voices always make it to the top. I don't care if its on social media or in real life! Make yourself heard! Be passionate about what you say! You will rise! Don't give up, and your book will get found.

Step 3 is the hardest choice that you will have to make in this whole process. You have to decide if you want to publish on your own, or if you want someone else to do it for you. Let me warn you, neither of these is an easy choice.
The number one thing that you need to know is the difference between traditional publishing and self-publishing. Traditional publishing is where you have to get accepted by an agent, then the agent has to get you accepted by a publisher. Let me tell you, it isn't easy. Self-Publishing is where you publish a book online by yourself. This includes Amazon or Google. Self-Publishing is easier and faster for getting your book published, but it is much harder to get discovered. Self-Publishing I'm going to start by explaining the Self-Publishing pros. There are many things that are good about self-publishing.
Step 1: Go to CreateSpace. It is linked to Amazon. You will start your publishing journey here. Step 2: Make sure you check all the boxes you want for your book. Do you want hard covers? Do you want paperbacks? You have to tell the computer. (Don't actually talk to the computer, you'll look crazy.) Step 3: Insert your story into the page how you want it. It will be published this way. Step 4: Wait a few days for it to completely publish itself. There you have it. Now, you know how to self-publish your book on Amazon. Many authors recommend self-publishing because you make more money, if you can get discovered. Traditional Publishing Alright, I guess I should start with the pros of traditional publishing.
Step 1: Get accepted by a literary agent. You can probably find some online. Step 2: Do everything that the agent says. That’s it really. You don’t have to do much until your publisher and editor look it over. That’s when you’ll have to rewrite and delete and ruin your story. Decide Choose what you want to do depending on your book. What do you want for your book? Good luck! It’s a tough choice. Personally, I’m going to self-publish when I finish writing… and editing… and rewriting… and designing. Anyway, Happy Publishing! Okay, let's say you've finished writing your book and you think it's really freaking amazing. The truth is, 9-10 times, it isn't. Let me guess, auto correct is your only editor? You're editing it yourself? If you're self-publishing, this is probably the case.
The truth is, editors are expensive. For an average novel (45,000-80,000 words) it can cost anywhere between 900 and 2,000 dollars. If you're like me, you don't have that kind of money to spend on something that might not even get you the money back. Here's a few tricks you can use to edit without spending any money. The first trick I have is to read your story out loud. Read it to a family member or to yourself and figure out what just doesn't sound right. Trust me, it does help. The second trick I have for you is to ask your friends or family to read it over, and comment as they go about what can need fixing. For example, my stories are very childish, so some people suggested that I make them a bit more realistic. You will likely have to rewrite your book a few times to get it to the best possible story it can be. Lastly, I am not saying to ditch auto-correct entirely. It is a useful tool that can help you spell and it kind of helps with some grammar. The only issue with auto correct is that it can't tell you if your story line is garbage or not. It can't give you a real opinion on your work. Happy editing! Alright, the #1 step to writing, is knowing what you're trying to write. Only write about things you're used to. Don't try to step outside of your comfort zone first thing. Start off by writing about what you love. Like me, I'm currently writing teen fiction because I love writing teen fiction. I'm not going to turn around and start writing about horror or mystery.
Secondly, if you are writing a novel, know that most are around 45,000-80,000 words long. They take a lot of time to write. If you write around 800-1,500 words every day for a year, you can finish up to eight novels a year. One problem, though, is that writer's block and life get in the way of writing much. Third, people are impaitent. Personally, I hate long introductions. Most stories have to start off with a bang to get my attention. If there isn't action in the first few paragraphs, people will lose intrest. People today are impaitent. With smartphones and internet in our hands, there is a lower popularity for books. You have to keep it interesting! Lastly, writing is NOT just outting your thoughts down on a slip of paper and calling it a story. Most people have trouble trying to get their thoughts down to where other people can understand what they're trying to say. You can't just say one moment that she was wearing blue dress, then the next say she was wearing a green dress when in your mund she was wearing a blue-green dress. That confuses readers too much. Happy writing! Many new authors wonder the same thing: How do I get discovered? I am writing this blog because, I too, want to know how I can get discovered. This blog will explain how authors both famous and infamous, got found and published. You will learn how to write your story, how to publish your story, and how to get your story discovered. Enjoy!
